Pet Photography – Aberdeenshire – Cocker Spaniel

As a follow on from the last blog post when I mentioned that I go to the beach often with my dogs.

Here is a sideshow of our dogs Milo & Blu(e).

Milo and Blu(e) may look the same but their personalities are very different.

Milo is a very laid back but boisterous dog and Blu(e) is quite timid but barks a lot!

Pet photography can be extremely challenging, but luckily I have these two willing subjects to help me practice.

Treats are essential, even although I “get on” with dogs; biscuits or sausages definitely help to get the dogs attention.

Milo is a poser and generally sits or can jump on to a rock (for example) on command – Blu(e) is shy and tries to keep away from the camera

I believe that dogs should be photographed as naturally as possible.

Studios can often stress the dogs out so if the dogs are outdoors having fun the resultant pictures will be so much better.

Hope that you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them

Commercial & Landscape Photography Peterhead Aberdeen Scotland

Being a full time wedding and portrait photographer, I still try to find time to learn & explore new techniques.

I have spent many years behind the lens of a camera, learning, exploring and practicing.

It probably took me 10 – 12 years of hard work, dedication, pain and a great deal of expense before becoming confident enough to call myself a photographer.

In my photography my goal is simple – to make beautiful

The most uninspiring things can be made beautiful by understanding shapes, forms, patterns, the light and using nature to your advantage.

Peterhead (near Aberdeen), where I live is often mocked by the locals for being a drab boring place.

A five-minute walk from my front door a wonderful beach presents itself.

The beach is exposed to the North Sea and I am constantly amazed and inspired by the ever-changing landscape.

I visit there with my dogs almost every day to learn and practice, there are great opportunities for stunning landscape photographs, this keeps me fresh for any commercial challenges ahead.

A lifestyle family portrait session in Peterhead

It’s been such a long time since we posted a blog, we have been having problems with web hosting but it is fixed now!

Again we have asked our wonderful clients to write our blog for us.

For this blog entry we have some lovely words by Karen & Scott

“I had some fantastic ‘bump’ pictures taken by Mal to mark my last few weeks of my pregnancy we did these in their studio.

The images were classic and beautifully done – a great memento of my pregnancy and I really enjoyed the time with both Mal & Leigh in the studio.

For our next session our family went outdoors where we had a great time, the kids really enjoyed it.

We had a newborn shoot in their studio when our baby Leonie arrived also!

Mal & Leigh really are wonderful to work with; they made our family photo shoot lots of fun which shone through each and every photo.

They have great patience with children especially the “fireman” kind!”

(Scott & Karen Mackie)

We had a great time with Karen, bump, Scott and the boys.

First up we did a photo session with Karen’s “bump” in the studio. This is a great way to tell the story from bump to baby!

Our next shoot was an outdoor lifestyle photo shoot, very informal and relaxed,
the weather was good and the kids got to run around and have lots of fun whilst mum and dad chilled out!!

Next time we saw Karen there was an addition to the family – Baby Leonie was born and of course arrived with mum for her first photo session!!

Thank you all for letting us capture some precious moments for you!

Malcolm & Leigh

welcome to our new blog

Hello! We are so very excited to be launching our brand new blog!

For something a bit different – we have decided from time to time to ask our wonderful clients to write our blog for us.

To begin with we have some lovely words by Kelly and Graeme:

“We chose Malcolm to take our baby boys photos after seeing his work online, we loved his natural outdoors images.

After we booked our session Malcolm and Leigh talked to us on the phone and came up with some fantastic ideas & suggestions.

They were delighted when we arrived on the day of the shoot with some of our own props.

The whole day was a lot of fun and Leon had a great time.

A large part of the shoot took place in a disused barn, then we went back to their studio and did some indoor photos.

Malcolm captured Leon’s happy smiling face throughout the day and Leigh was great in styling the settings.

Our favourite picture of the day was the one of Leon sitting on the ground with our legs in shot.

Malcolm had asked me to take along a pair of killer heels and for my other half (who has a trainer obsession) to wear a pair of his favourites.  We were not sure what to expect as we didn’t really want to be in the photos ourselves.

The photo had special significance for us as it captured the tattoo that I have on my foot of our baby daughter Lily who we tragically lost at birth.

We can’t thank Mal and Leigh enough for the quality and service they have provided to us..

We had a fantastic day with them and we now have our favourite picture from the day, pride of place on our living room wall!

Thanks Kelly & Graeme xxx

We had a fantastic time photographing Leon – what a happy boy, he never stopped smiling the whole day.

It was a cold day but Kelly and Graeme were fantastic and went along with the ideas that we had .

We were delighted when we saw the things that they had brought along with them and the aeroplane was just brilliant!!

The photo with the heels & trainers was inspired by a photograph taken by a friend and mentor of ours and also a brilliant photographer (thanks Kate) and it is also one of our favourites from the day!

Thank you for reading our blog – we hope that you enjoy the photos and the words from our fantastic clients.

See you soon – Malcolm & Leigh x
